When do the Prague Christmas markets 2026 open?

The first big market, náměstí Míru, opens on 20 Nov 2026. Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square open on Saturday 28 Nov 2026, the day before the 1st Advent Sunday.

When do the Prague Christmas markets close?

Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square run until 6 Jan 2027 (Three Kings). Míru, Republiky and Tylovo close on 24 Dec, Anděl on 31 Dec.

What are the opening hours?

Old Town and Wenceslas Squares: daily 10:00–22:00. Náměstí Míru: daily 10:00–20:00. Anděl: daily 08:00–20:00. Some markets have not published their 2026 hours yet; each card says so.

Is entry free?

Almost all markets are open public squares with free entry. Christmas Lemarket (design market at Galerie Mánes, 11–13 Dec) charges 150 CZK a day.

Which Christmas market is the least crowded?

Holešovice Market Hall advertises an Advent "without crowds and kitsch". Neighbourhood markets such as Jiřák, Tylovo náměstí and Kampa are smaller than Old Town Square.

Can I pay by card?

Yes, at most stalls on Old Town and Wenceslas Squares, says the organiser. Bring some cash for small markets.

Is there a Christmas market at Prague Castle?

Not in 2026. Instead the Castle runs a free Christmas Walk through its grounds from 28 Nov 2026 to 3 Jan 2027, closed on 24 and 31 Dec and 1 Jan.

When is the Old Town Square Christmas tree lit?

On opening day, Saturday 28 Nov 2026. The time has not been announced yet. This year's tree is a 23 m spruce from Šimonovice near Liberec.

Next season (2027)

2027 dates have not been announced yet: we will update this page as soon as the organisers publish them. Advent Sundays 2027 fall on 28 Nov and 5, 12 and 19 Dec. If the usual pattern holds, the big squares would open on Saturday 27 Nov 2027 (our estimate).
